Fundraising Events

How it all Started

In early 2007, during a very sad time, Andrew decided that he would like to do something positive in Rose's memory, and so began the start of our fundraising efforts.

Our aim for 2007 was to raise £5,000 by completing the BritBallRun, a 1,000 mile car tour around the UK. Teams start their journey each day at a pre-announced venue and drive between checkpoints towards a common goal. From the start venue teams depart at one minute intervals and drive towards the first compulsory checkpoint. Only at this checkpoint will they know the location of the next. There will be 3 to 4 checkpoints per day, which are approximately 100-150 miles apart & there are no predefined routes between checkpoints. The emphasis is on team work, the skill of navigation, forward planning and quick decision making (and luck depending upon route taken and traffic volume).

Throughtout the months leading up to the BritBallRun, thanks to some wonderful friends with great ideas and auction donations from various companies in the North West, our fundraising total crept up and shortly after the event we hit our first year target of £5,000.

Since then we have continued to go from strength to strength and managed to complete our second BritBallRun adventure in August 2008. This time we did things in style and came home with the winners trophy!

In November 2008, 2 years after Rose passed away and thanks to a very kind donation from our friend Sarah, we were thrilled to announce that we had hit our £10,000 target!

Where we go from here

On 1st March 2009, as part of our efforts to provide better information for high grade brain tumour patients, their families, friends and caregivers living in the UK our sister site Brain Tumour (BT) Buddies was launched.

On Monday 10th May 2010, BT Buddies become a national charity and we are able to continue providing information and support thanks to kind donations and generous fundraisers.

2011 will see the launch of  TEAM BT BUDDIES - anyone taking part in a running, walking or cycling event on behalf of BT Buddies automatically becomes part of the team.

Every team member receives a Team BT Buddies T-shirt, a goody bag and support throughout their training and event!

We can also help with fundraising ideas and provide you with BT Buddies leaflets, banners, wristbands, awareness ribbons and lots more merchandise to help gain support for your event.
