Walk around the coast logo

LOCATION: UK Wide

DATES: Monday 1st March to Saturday 6th November 2010

GOAL: 5,581 MILES - Around the coast of England (in 31 Days)

WHY: 16,000 people each year are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour  in the UK, and, more people under 40 die from a brain tumour than any other cancer. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of brain tumours amongst the general public and, to raise vital funds to help us continue to provide information and support to brain tumour patients, their families, carers and friends as well as fund research into this devastating disease.

How does the walk around the coast work?

walkersFrom 1st March 2010 walking events are being held across the UK to raise awareness of brain tumours. The BT Buddies 'Walk Around the Coast' aims to walk a total of 5,581 miles which is the official distance around the coast of England.

We have a wide range of walking events for people of all fitness levels, the miles people walk at any of these events, or at events you organise yourselves will be added to our total and we hope to hit our 5,581 mile goal by 6th November 2010!

All miles walked for BT Buddies will be added to the IBTA's annual 'Walk Around the World' total, more details on this can be found below.

SPONSORSHIP

Walks can be sponsored or unsponsored, as long as they raise awareness of brain tumours that's what counts! All funds raised will go to providing information and support to anyone affected by a brain tumour and, towards research into the disease.

Our Treadmill-a-thons, Pedometer-a-thons, Treasure Hunts and Photography Walk are all sponsored events. People can be sponsored by the amount of miles they walk, the time it takes them to walk a certain distance, for dressing in fancy dress and walking on our treadmill or any other ways they can think of!

Our unsponsored walks include various events with the Ramblers Association.

We are also happy to discuss any ideas you have for holding your own walking event in 2010. Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

The IBTA Logo

The Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours is a project launched by the International Brain Tumour Alliance (The IBTA). People are encouraged to undertake sponsored or unsponsored walks to raise awareness about brain tumours and to donate the mileage covered to the World Walk target of circling the earth five times at the Equator (125,000 miles or 200,000 kms). See www.ibta.org for details of their work.
